Understanding the Big Picture
Still, we relied on some stats and projections for Week 2 and we should be in good position to hit in some of the weaker projected matchups. QB Case Keenum, Broncos vs. The Raiders defense without Khalil Mack looked very weak. Keenum just threw for over yards and three TDs in his Broncos debut albeit with three interceptions.
Keenum has upside as a low-cost starter, and he could repay this value easily with a solid game against the Raiders. So, for tournaments, we really like him as a potential low-ownership option in his price range.
RB Alvin Kamara, Saints vs. Kamara is the highest-priced RB on the slate, but he is well worth it in a favorable matchup with the Browns. Kamara could have a monster game again, so he needs to be owned for the upcoming week. RB Chris Thompson, Redskins vs. Thompson only had 11 touches against the Cardinals, but he turned them into scrimmage yards and a score. In another good matchup against the Colts, Thompson has big play-making upside, but others might sleep on him because of his perceived lack of volume.
Agholor saw 10 targets in the opener and while he only managed 33 yards, he nabbed eight catches. Look for this kind of stuff because it brings up great opportunities to start bench players who cost significantly less, but can still get you just as many points! Look for Injuries — This one is also very important. Injuries to a teams most valuable player can open up huge opportunities for the other starters.
If their main scoring threat Koby Bryant were to sit out for a game, the huge amount of points he would have brought in would basically be spread out between all the others starters like Jeremy Lin, Carlos Boozer, and Jordan Hill.
Another tip is to look for multiple injuries on a team. If one team has two of its biggest players sitting out, it can give other starters in a prime spot for extra minutes and points. Always perform a double or triple checkup on Questionable players before you start them.
A questionable player will be quickly benched if the team pulls a decent lead or if the players injury starts aching. I tend to try and stay away from those players to avoid risking less points and minutes!
Both of these factors play an important role when drafting your team. They can cause you to lose major points which will prevent you from ever winning.
